ENGLISH EXPRESSIONS

1. EXPRESSING REQUEST
a) Ilvia : There is a West life show in Senayan. Will you go
to see it, Mum?
Mummy : I am afraid not. It will be very crowded. And it’s
dangerous for a young girl like you.
b) A : Oh, it is a beautiful flower! May I go to the garden, please?
B : Certainly but be careful! You mustn’t pick up any flowers or you
will be fined.
c) X : Din, would you take me to Matahari mall with your motorcycle?
Y : I’m sorry, um. I can’t. I’m busy finishing my school project.
It’s due to tomorrow.
d) Q : Can I help you, sir?
A : Would you bring me a bowl of soup, please?
Q : I’m sorry, sir. We don’t have it today.

2. EXPRESSING AN OFFERING
a. A : Would you like a heavy jacket?
B : Yes, please.
A : You can wear my brother’s leather jacket.
B : Thank you. It’s very kind of you.

3. EXPRESSINGA HOPE/DESIRE
a. A : My teacher asked my to act in the school play which will be held
next month.
B : that’s a good idea. I hope you’ll be successful.
b. A : Brian I am very excited. Next month I am going to Perth.
B : Really?
A : Yes, I’m going to attend an International boy-scout festival
there.
B : That’s wonderful. I hope you’ll have a lovely trip.
A: Thank you.

4. EXPRESSING AN APOLOGY
a. A : Your library card, please?
B : Oops, I’m sorry I forgot to bring it.
A : So, you can’t borrow this book.

5. EXPRESSING QUANTITIES AND FREQUENCY
a. A : Do you ever come to school late?
B : No, sir. I never come to school late.
A : That’s good. But how come?
B : Because I always go to school early.
b. A : What are you looking for?
B : Some food. I’m starving.
A : It’s in the fridge.
B : There is nothing left, Mom.
